Timberland a global leader in the design, engineering, & marketing of premium-quality footwear, apparel, & accessories for consumers who value the outdoors & their time in it has taken an initiative to plant 5 million trees in the next 5 years to deal with the critical issues surrounding the environment. Timberland believes that for sustained efforts for planting of trees and gaining some practical achievements one needs to put in a thoughtful as well as a strategic full effort.

Timberland has launched a Facebook application Timberland Earthkeepers Virtual Forest where the application users have the option of creating their own virtual forests. Timberland through this wants to benefit its efforts to plant more trees, by which
it would plant more trees depending on the measure of the virtual forest created by the users of this application. The company aims at planting 1 million trees depending on the size of the virtual forest created by its users or keep planting proportionally till 31st October 2011. The target areas for plantation of these trees are Haiti & Horqin desert in china, which had suffered long from widespread impact of deforestation.

In the Virtual Forest Application the users have the option of creating their very own forests by planting trees. They can make neighbors and write names on their neighbors’ trees or compare their ranks with others. This facebook application also shows video which introduces the farmers who are participating in Yele Vert and provides detailed information about reforestation efforts of Timberland's. These videos help in educating and connecting people with the efforts initiated by the company by the use of this online application.

With the launch of this virtual forest, Timberland is trying to give users a way to engage themselves in a meaningful real-world program, a way that is informative & hopefully fun & ladders up a focus.
